Georg came from a family of Bavarian brewers, so when he immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1853 he took up the same occupation. The next year, however he settled in LeRoy, Wisconsin and started his own brewery there. He ran this brewery until 1892 when he retired.

Georg was, according to his 1873 passport application, five foot-five inches tall with an usual mouth, round chin, brown eyes, dark brown hair, light complexion, a full face, high forehead, and a small nose.
